Capitol Steel supported the award-winning mechanical installation of the LRS Exchange MRF in Chicago named the 2024 NWRA Recycling Facility of the Year, working alongside CP Group and MSS to install one of the most advanced recycling systems in the country. For this $50 million, 500-tons-per-day operation, Capitol Steel handled the mechanical installation of conveyors, auger screens, disc screens, optical sorters, and supporting steel, managing rigging, setting, alignment, guarding, and system transitions while coordinating closely with CP Group and MSS to maintain precision and schedule. Superintendent Jeremy McClain oversaw daily field operations, sequencing, safety, rigging plans, and alignment tolerances for a 20-plus-man crew, while Project Manager Jeff Cullen managed procurement, submittals, documentation, and coordination with equipment suppliers to keep milestones on track. The installation ensured the system performed as designed, contributing to the facility’s recognition for innovation and throughput, and further demonstrating Capitol Steel’s nationwide expertise in complex mechanical installations.
